Menstrual pain and PMS vary greatly from person to person in both symptoms and intensity. As a result, it can be difficult not only for people who do not experience menstruation but even for those who do to fully understand or share their experiences with others.
To address this challenge, Tsumura visualized the diverse experiences of menstrual pain and PMS based on interviews about how individuals perceive and experience these symptoms. The initiative encouraged people to “start by understanding our differences.” On International Women’s Day (March 8), the message was communicated through newspaper advertisements and large posters displayed in train stations.
In addition, a documentary video was produced and distributed online, encouraging viewers to explore and understand different menstrual experiences together with partners and friends.
The initiative generated significant discussion on social media and became a catalyst for empathy between those who had previously endured menstrual pain without being able to express it and those who had not been able to understand it.
